A peak of Trout Lake at the entrance to
John Hendry Park
Directions
Continue to the end of Lakewood Drive and you will reach one of the entrances to John Hendry Park. Enter the park and notice the large expanse of water straight ahead. This is Trout Lake and we are going to circumvent it clockwise. The next featured tree appears scattered all around the lake but we are going to stop at some of the best specimens which lie at the southern end by the second beach area. The unmistakeable, elegant, awe-inspiring: Weeping Willow.

Weeping Willows surround Trout Lake.
Weeping Willow
Proper Name: Salix x chrysocoma
Common Name: Weeping Willow
Description: All weeping willows are cultivars and/or hybrids so it’s not easy to ever really know what one you have in front of you. But it’s for sure in the Weeping Willow group as this distinctive deciduous tree has long, narrow, leaves in a spiral formation. In fall these light green leaves turn a golden yellow colour. Catkins are produced in early spring.
Defining Feature: The long hanging branches are so distinctive, especially the way they often look wind swept even when there’s no breeze at all.
So lithe and elegant.
